Everything's shiny, Captain, not to fret

If you know what the title of this post is from, you automatically get a thousand geek points and my eternal friendship. I said something today on Twitter about how I wished I'd worn a certain t-shirt to work today. Angie asked me if I'd gotten it from Thinkgeek, which made me decide that I needed to do a feature of my recent nerdy purchases from Thinkgeek.

Now, if you remember this post, you'll know that this isn't the beginning of my nerdy t-shirt collection. I think it's starting to come along nicely. First of all, we have this:

It's probably not surprising to you if you read this, though!! It combines two of my favourite things: Ron Weasley and Harry Potter Lego. I have grand plans for finishing the Lego Harry Potter game when I move home in six weeks or so. MWAHAHA!!!

Nerdtastic!

Well, I was planning on telling you all about my fieldwork trip last week or my long weekend in Melbourne. But then I got a very exciting package in the post. To be honest, I was a little embarrassed about it. Because it came by courier, I had to get it shipped to work - the courier company would give you a delivery window of "Any time between 8am and 6pm", and wouldn't deliver it without a signature, so obviously there wasn't going to be anyone home. So I figured I'd just get it shipped to work. Which would have been fine, except for the fact that it didn't arrive in a plain courier envelope. No, this package was from thinkgeek.com, so it said "THINKGEEK.COM" across the top in giant letters, and featured an enormous picture of a cartoon monkey. Clearly not work related, that's for sure.

But then I opened the package, and the awesomeness took over. Three incredibly nerdy t-shirts:

 Yes, it's a Firefly joke. And it's pure genius...

"Did the primary buffer panel just fall off my gorram ship??" Aaaaah, Serenity... How I love thee...

Yup. It's even nerdy on the back. Pure win.

I can't wait for the weekend. The weather's meant to be good, and my nerd flag will definitely be flying!!

Welcome to Nerdsville

Today I was out at the museum store for mount assessment. It was pretty damned cool to finally see the objects I've been working on and writing about for the past year. But some of the loan objects haven't arrived yet - the stuff we're borrowing from large and medium sized museums won't arrive until closer to opening.

In a break between mount assessments, I was talking to the conservator dude and the girl from the mount building company about some of the objects that haven't arrived yet. One of these is the life mask of Hobart's first rector. Conservation dude said something about how death/life masks are creepy, and used Ned Kelly's death mask as an example, which is a cast of Kelly's entire head.

At around this point, I entered Nerdsville by uttering the following sentence: "Nah, this one's not like Ned Kelly's. It's more like Han Solo trapped in carbonite..."

It's not often that my inner nerd shows itself in public, but when it does, it doesn't do things by halves... Course, in this case, it worked out for the best - they told me about this. It's pretty much the most nerdtastic thing I've ever seen...

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to investigate their collection of Firefly and Monty Python t-shirts. And possibly spend my entire pay cheque................................
