New Zealand - the flailing with excitement edition

Previously, Ness and I hung out with glowworms in Waitomo.

The day after our great glowworm expedition, we were on the road bright and early because we had an almost three hour drive to Auckland ahead of us, and planes to catch. After some slower-than-intended travel due to crappy weather, we made it to the airport with enough time to have lunch - at 11am! - before heading to our respective flights. Ness was bound for Christchurch and the south island, while I was heading for Wellington and Kim(!!!!).

The flight was relatively unexciting, which is interesting because apparently Wellington landings can be a little on the...unexpected side. But ours was pretty chilled. I met Kim at the airport with much excited squealing and hugging. It was something along these lines:
Source
After a quick detour through the terminal to see the giant Gollum, we headed out to the bus and back to Kim's. Once there and prepared with copious quantities of snacks, we spent the afternoon snarking our way through the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, which was even more terrible than either of us had anticipated. Thanks a lot, Moffat... Then we decided to watch Captain America as a palate cleanser.

That was followed by a few levels of Lego Marvel Superheroes, because we're cool like that. And because we're nerds awesome, our playing went something like this:

Me: Who am I? Oh, I'm Tony. Okay. Whoa, I can blow things up, wheeeeeee!! *flies around randomly*
Kim: Shit, I accidentally turned back into Bruce. HULK OUT, BRUCE, YOU LITTLE SHIT.
Me: I'm stuck in a corner. Why am I stuck in a corner??? Oh, because Abomination breathed on me and his bad breath knocked me across the room. Okay. Sure.
Kim: Oh my God. I just made Cap twerk. I'm just going to stand here twerking for the rest of the level, okay?
Me: Ugh, Reid Richards, nobody likes you. OH MY GOD. KIM. KIM. KIM KIM KIM.
Kim: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. WHAT IS THAT???
Me: I think he just turned himself into a pair of pliers. I AM DEAD.
Kim: Of COURSE Clark Gregg is the voice of Coulson. Of COURSE.
Me: Oh shit, I just shot Clint's hair off. Aaaaaand he fell off a cliff. Whoops?

So yeah. It was awesome, basically.

The next day, we headed into the city and wandered around the shops for a while before heading to Te Papa. We started out looking at the creep-tastic giant squid and the other natural history stuff before heading upstairs to the special exhibition of Aztec awesomeness, which of course is now coming to Melbourne for the Winter Masterpieces. (It's awesome, you should go) Then we wandered around the rest of the museum, looking at art and cultural stuff and a small child who had light up gumboots that we both immediately decided we wanted.

And the sun decided to come out for approximately five minutes YAY:

On our way out, we went through the gift shop where I found this rather spectacular Christmas decoration. I was half tempted to buy a whole bunch of them, but ultimately decided that would be overkill:

We headed back to the city centre to buy tickets to see Thor: The Dark World (because OBVIOUSLY. Also because Tom Hiddleston), and then ended up at a pub/brewery/thing on the waterfront with a few drinks and a highly nutritious dinner of chips and wedges. We met one of Kim's friends from work there, who hadn't seen the movie before. Which is how we ended up spending a lot of the movie laughing over all of her reactions to the things we knew were coming. It was magical, and someone needs to hurry up and invent teleportation before Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes out so that Kim and I can see it together.

Next up, the rest of Wellington, featuring noisy children and a lot of kiwis. (The birds, not the fruit)

New Zealand - the "LOOK AT THE PRETTY" edition, part 2

Previously, Ness and I hung out in some awesome glowworm filled caves, and it was awesome.

After finishing at the caves, we debated what to do with the rest of the afternoon. We headed back to Ruakuri Reserve to do a short walk there that's rated one of the ten best in New Zealand. It wasn't especially interesting during the day, we simply wanted to familiarise ourselves with it for our return later on, which is when it TRULY lives up to that top ten status.

Once we'd done that, there was still an hour or so left before we could check into our accommodation, and we'd exhausted the main possibilities in Waitomo. So we flipped over the map that we'd been given by the tourist information place, and noticed that it included a bunch of waterfalls and beaches and things that were about 30-60 minutes away. We decided on Marokopa Falls.

The drive there got a little bit...ridiculous:

Me: Okay, so the instructions say that after 5 kilometres, there'll be a fork in the road and we go left.
Ness: Cool. [what felt like a million years pass] Well THAT was the longest five kilometres ever. THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!!!
[both laugh hysterically]
Me: [a minute later] Wait, that doesn't even make sense. Why is it so funny??

Eventually, we arrived and headed down the path to the falls:

It was very pretty, but it was also blowing mist all over us, so we didn't stay very long. We drove a little further down the road, then declared ourselves bored and headed back to Waitomo to check into our accommodation.

There, our host recommended the restaurant across the road for dinner, so after a wee spot of relaxation (translation: checking all the internet things) we fancied ourselves up and headed over there. Well. We were not disappointed. The food was DELICIOUS - we ended up sharing an entree, then having main course and dessert each. A little more food than we'd been planning on, but totally worth it.
Pumpkin and cheddar risotto balls

Homemade fettuccine with cherry tomatoes and goat feta

Chocolate souffle with raspberry coulis and plum ice cream, OMG.
We left sometime later, happy but laden with food babies. If you're ever in Waitomo, I HIGHLY recommend the Huhu Cafe. And it wasn't especially pricey either!!

Back across the road at our B&B, we borrowed some torches and jumped in the car, heading back to Ruakuri Reserve. Why? Because there are glowworms along the banks of the river at night, and it's kind of like walking through Rivendell or something. It. Was. Amazing. I think we probably wandered around for the better part of an hour in the dark - it's kind of incredible how much your eyes adjust. At first, we were the only people there, and we got excited when we spotted a cluster of half a dozen glowworms. But as it got darker, it was like there were constellations all over the place.
Terrible photographic proof of glowworms

Eventually, a large group of loud tourists arrived, blinding everyone with their torches. Which was dumb, because the more you relied on your torch, the less you'd see the glowworms... So we abandoned ship and headed back to the car. When we got back up to the main road, something darted out into the headlight beams, and Ness practically had kittens. Once I'd identified it as a hedgehog, she had even more kittens on account of never having seen a hedgehog before. She jumped out of the car, and chased it - giggling the whole time - down the road. I wish to God I'd been able to stop laughing long enough to video it, because it was absolutely priceless.
Basically, Ness was the kitten. Source.

We giggled all the way back to the B&B.*

Next up, we hightail it back to Auckland, and I fly to Wellington to meet Kim!

K xx

*It's totally okay for us to giggle. Hedgehogs are an introduced species and a pest in New Zealand, despite their adorableness.

Movie Monday: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I honestly can't believe it's taken me this long to cover today's installment. Because it's made of pure, unadulterated fabulous and has a truly amazing cast.

Reasons why The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is awesome:
1. Martin Freeman. I mean, Martin's pretty much always awesome, not matter what he's in. And he's perfect here as the British everyman, Arthur Dent, even if he DOES have to spend the entire film in a dressing gown and pyjamas.
2. So Long And Thanks For All The Fish. Best movie opening ever.

3. Mos Def. He's fabulous.
4. Evil genius mice.
5. Stephen Fry as narrator. You really can't go wrong with Stephen Fry.
6. Getting slapped in the face every time you have an idea.
Source
7. Zooey Deschenel.
8. The Point of View gun.
9. Alan Rickman and Warwick Davies as Marvin.
Source
10. Bill Nighy as Slartibartfast.
11. A whale and a bowl of petunias falling from the sky.
12. John Malkovich. Oh my God.
13. Planet construction. Fabulousness.
Source
14. Vogon poetry.
15. Anna Chancellor.
16. Zaphod's costumes. Hell, Zaphod in general.
17. Helen Mirren as the voice of Deep Thought.
Source

Plus, the following quotes:
- "In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people angry and has widely been considered as a bad move."
- "Freeze? I'm a robot, not a refrigerator."
- "Okay, leave this to me - I'm British, I know how to queue."
- "Go with the hunch of a man whose brain is fueled by LEMONS?!"
- "I could calculate your chances of survival, but you won't like it."
- "All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's something big and sinister going on in the world." "No, that's perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the universe gets that."
- "It is most gratifying that your enthusiasm for our planet continues unabated. As a token of our appreciation, we hope you will enjoy the two thermonuclear missiles we've just sent to converge with your craft. To ensure ongoing quality of service, your death may be monitored for training purposes. Thank you."
- "I don't see what all the fuss is about, Vogons are the worst marksmen in the galaxy."
- "I think I'm a sofa."
- "A man who no more knows his destiny than a tea leaf knows the history of the East India company."
- "It must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays."
- "Okay. The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything is...42."

Nerdtasticness

Remember this time last year when I had Must Be Thrifty, her boyfriend Cheap Geek, and our high school bestie L over for Mexipalooza? Almost a year to the day later, the four of us were together again. With an additional 80 or so people, because MUST BE THRIFTY AND CHEAP GEEK GOT MARRIED!!!!!! And it was quite possibly the most geek-tastic event I've ever had the pleasure of attending.

First of all, Cheap Geek and his family entered to The Imperial March from Star Wars. As played by MBT's nephew's bossa nova band. Awesome. Said band also provided much of the music for the evening, which included the theme from Super Mario, a selection of songs from The Lion King, the Doctor Who theme, the Futurama theme, and the cantina theme from Star Wars. In short, the music was made of solid gold win.

Also made of win? The teapot that was used to serve the tea for the semi-traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony:

The table decorations consisted of old boardgames, a variety of teapots filled with flowers, and completely hilarious books - there was a cowboy book on our table called "The Leather Slapper" and the verso listed other books from the same publisher, which included "The Two-Fisted Cowpoke", which had half the table cackling with laughter. One of the other books on our table? A guide to Chinese cookery from the early 1950s. It included this delicious sounding recipe...
Excuse you, that is acceptable as NOTHING EVER.

The food was TO DIE FOR. I honestly thought that the vast quantities of hors d'oeuvres that graced the buffet with their presence over the course of an hour or so were dinner. But no. They were just the entree. And were followed by a main course, cheese plates, dessert, and wedding croquembouche. Complete with Lego MBT and Cheap Geek on top, because OBVIOUSLY.

In keeping with the "normal weddings are boring" theme, the bride and groom had a first lawn bowl (the wedding AND the reception were at a bowls club) instead of a first dance, and instead of tossing the bouquet, we played bouquet bingo, complete with wedding related bingo calls!

It was definitely the most relaxed wedding I've ever been to - the bride was mingling with guests when I arrived - and also one of the most enjoyable. It may not have fitted what a lot of people think a wedding should be, but pff. It was awesome, and it totally fitted Must Be Thrifty and Cheap Geek!!

Congratulations, guys. Hope you're having a spectacular honeymoon.

Do you hear the bloggers sing?

Previously: it took me 16 hours of flying in middle seats to get from Orlando to Phoenix, and it was the uber-suck. On the plus side, Gina was there to meet me at the end of it.

My first day in Phoenix was a pretty quiet one, on account of having spent sixteen hours in planes/at airports the previous day. Instead, Gina and I hung out on the sofa watching the Food Network while her kids played and said hilarious things and were generally adorable. Gina introduced me to the wonders of Sandra Lee, and we both snorted with laughter at the facial expression of the woman who had to try Sandra's cocktail creation.

Other things that happened:

  • I flipped my hair over the back of the sofa and straight into a burning candle. Which kind of defeated the point in Gina lighting the candles in the first place.
  • Kid #1 telling jokes: "What do snakes eat for breakfast? MAC AND CHEESE!!" Me: "Well, who WOULDN'T want mac and cheese for breakfast?!"
  • I fell in love with Gina's shower. Seriously, you guys. It's the best shower EVER. Made better by the fact that the shower at our hotel in Orlando barely did more than trickle in a pathetic way, even with the hot tap on full.
  • Gina: "I kind of want to take you to Outback just because it would be funny".
  • We watched the pilot of Firefly, and Gina's husband JD said "What??" a lot.
  • Me: "So I saw an episode of that show, Pawn Stars..." Gina: "WOW. That sounds SO much worse in an Australian accent..."
  • Kid #3 wandered in with his blankie and his thumb in his mouth, changed the channel on the TV, hid the remote control, and looked at me all "What you gonna do about it? Huh?" and then ran away.
  • I gave Gina a packet of Timtams, and over the course of the day, all three of her kids ran into the room, went "WHAT ARE THOSE?!" and then cried when told they were for grown ups.
  • We watched Paula Dean deep fry chicken and serve it in a giant scone/biscuit/thing with a pasta salad made with tinned mushrooms and a whole bottle of storebought Italian dressing. We both had the same grossed out expression by the end of it.
  • I spent a LOT of time going "Holy crap, this house is enormous". Because seriously. It is.
The following day, we headed out to the Desert Botanical Gardens, where I promptly discovered that I'd left my wallet behind and had to be all "Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiina, can you pay for me to get iiiiiiiiiiiiin??". Pure class, that's me. Once inside the grounds, Kid #2 endeared himself to me forever by dancing around Gangnam Style style while singing the Indiana Jones theme music. Because why the hell not?!

Anyway, the gardens were really cool and filled with sharp pointy things and educational opportunities.

Four Seasons themed art - Spring

Winter

After we ran out of cacti to look at, we headed over to the Hole in the Rock for a picnic lunch, a mosey around, and a look at the view. Oh, and on the way there, Kid #2 (who, I should mention, had held my hand about half the way around the Botanic Gardens of his own accord) piped up "Hey Mommy? Next time we go here, can your friend NOT come with us?", which caused me to giggle non-stop for about five minutes. But I digress. THE VIEW:

Once we'd all looked at the view and all three of the kids had looked at me like I was crazy for taking pictures of a plastic velociraptor (Yes. I forgot my wallet, but remembered Clever Girl...), we headed back down to the car and headed over to JD's office to drop the kids off. Because Gina and I had important places to be, yo.

What important place would that be? A screening of Les Miserables. At 3.30 in the afternoon. With Eileen and M. And it was freaking AMAZING. Why? Because we were the only people in the theatre, so the following things happened:
  • We gave each of the songs a letter grade as they happened
  • We turned "Do You Hear the People Sing?" into a sing along. The best part is that it happened organically, much like in the film. Eileen started, then Gina joined in, then M and I jumped firmly on the bandwagon of "THIS IS A THING THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN", because obviously.
  • The added-in-so-it-could-be-nominated-for-the-Best-Music-Oscar song started, and I stood up and went "Well, time to pee because this song SUCKS".
  • Crying during Eddie Redmayne's performance of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" was actively encouraged.
  • We established that "Bring Him Home" is awful and should be pitched at least an octave lower than it is.
  • M informed us that she would like to lick Eddie Redmayne's freckles.
  • We gave Aaron Tveit's death scene a round of applause.
  • It was quite possibly the greatest thing ever. Internet friends FTW.
And once we'd finished our private, snark-filled screening of Les Mis, we headed over to Outback because Eileen and M thought it would be equally hilarious to take the Australian to Outback. There was a hashtag and everything, because we're cool like that.

I called bullshit on about 90% of the menu (apparently Alice Springs is known for its quesadillas. WHUT), and then when it came time to order and the waitress couldn't understand my accent, the other three started giggling. Which then progressed to full blown hysterics when I asked for American cheese (only because she listed them so quickly that I couldn't remember the other options). The poor waitress was horribly confused.

Then I ate my burger with cutlery because it was enormous and I'm a fucking lady well brought up, and Gina lost her shit all over again:
Stolen shamelessly from Gina's blog
Several hours and one shared Chocolate Thunder from Down Under later, the evening came to an end. Albeit with plans to meet up the following night for Mexipalooza.

Up next, Gina and I get up at stupid o'clock for a very special reason.

Movie Monday: Little Miss Sunshine

It'd been forever since I saw today's movie. So after a weekend full of family functions, it seemed like a prime opportunity to take a little visit to a family even more dysfunctional than mine!

Reasons why Little Miss Sunshine is awesome:
1. Abigail Breslin. Holy crap, that kid is fantastic.
2. When the horn on the Kombi gets stuck.

3. It won two Oscars and deserved them both.
4. Steve Carrell. It's not his usual comic role, and he's pretty great.
5. Dwayne's emotional breakdown when he finds out that he can't get into the Air Force. It's brilliantly acted.
Source
6. Leaving Olive behind at the petrol station.
7. Greg Kinnear. His character's a total asshat for most of the movie, but he still manages to turn the character around by the end.
8. Stealing the grandfather's body from the hospital.
Source
9. Riding to Scottsdale on a moped.
10. Paul Dano. He's FANTASTIC, considering he spends most of the movie in total silence.
11. The awful rendition of America the Beautiful.
12. Olive practicing her surprised winner face.
Source
13. Alan Arkin. PERFECT.
14. Richard's face during the talent portion of the competition. Priceless.
15. Dwayne's "I hate EVERYONE" note.
16. Richard's awkward dance moves.
Source
17. Toni Collette. She's pretty great.
18. Tiger faces.
19. Dropping the grandfather out of the window.
20. Push starting the Kombi.
Source
21. Olive's routine. Hilariously awful.
22. Dwayne and Frank lasting two whole seconds in the talent section before running out.

Plus, the following quotes:
- "You don't speak because of Freidrich Nietzsche? ...Alright then."
- "Sarcasm is the refuge of losers." "Is it? Really??"
- "A real loser is someone so afraid of not winning that he doesn't even try."
- "Did I mention that I'm the preeminent Proust scholar in the US?"
- "You do what you love and fuck the rest."
- "Oh Jesus. God. I'm being pulled over. Here we go. Everybody just...act normal."
- "I apologise for the things I said. I was upset and I didn't really mean it."
- "Anything else?" "Yeah, is there a funeral home around here?"
- "Are you authorised to be backstage?" "No. *keeps walking*"
- "Is he here? Where's your grandpa right now?" "In the trunk of our car."
- "Can I get the, uh, waffles? And, um, what does "a la mode-y" mean?" "Oh that means it comes with ice cream!" "Okay. A la mode-y then."
- "I'm glad you're talking again, Dwayne. You're not nearly as stupid as you look."
- "He fell in love with another man, a colleague of mine; Larry Sugarman." "Who's Larry Sugarman?" "Probably the second highest regarded Proust scholar in the US." "Who's number 1?" "That would be me, Rich." "Really?"
- "I wish I could just sleep until I was eighteen and skip all this crap-high school and everything-just skip it." "Do you know who Marcel Proust is?" "He's the guy you teach." "Yeah. French writer. Total loser. Never had a real job. Unrequited love affairs. Gay. Spent 20 years writing a book almost no one reads. But he's also probably the greatest writer since Shakespeare. Anyway, he uh... he gets down to the end of his life, and he looks back and decides that all those years he suffered, Those were the best years of his life, 'cause they made him who he was. All those years he was happy? You know, total waste. Didn't learn a thing. So, if you sleep until you're 18... Ah, think of the suffering you're gonna miss. I mean high school? High school - those are your prime suffering years. You don't get better suffering than that."
- "Okay, you're out. On the condition that you never enter your daughter in a beauty pageant in the state of California, ever again. Ever." "I think we can live with that."

Have you seen it? Do you love it?

Turning 30? It's pretty great - Part 2

So. I already told you about my actual birthday. But I didn't tell you about the rest of the extra long weekend of awesomeness because I was a dirty slacker at the end of last week (aka I spent every night playing Lego Batman on my shiny new XBox and totally forgot that I had other stuff to do. Whoops?). So I shall rectify that now!

FRIDAY:
Got up stupidly early and headed into the city to meet Nikki. There was a small degree of excited flailing before we jumped on the train and headed down to Flinders Street. From there, we took a wee jaunt across the river to the Eureka Tower. Once we'd laughed ourselves stupid at how ridiculous the "look through this tube to see the thing we're talking about" viewers were (half of them need to be updated as new buildings are now in the way, and one was for the tram restaurant. Which moves...), we headed over to Crown to marvel at the hideous atrium. Sadly, I didn't time our visit properly so we didn't get to see the fountains in action.

From there, we hopped on the City Circle and up to Melbourne Central for a spot of lunch, before heading across to the State Library to ogle the La Trobe Reading Room and visit the exhibitions. Then we headed up to the Royal Exhibition Building, down to Elizabeth Street and Minotaur, and then home via Royal Arcade. The evening was spent playing Lego Pirates of the Caribbean on XBox because we're cool like that.

SATURDAY:
A slow start, followed by heading off to see Iron Man 3. It was completely phenomenal, and it's possible I ate an entire box of Junior Mints during the course of the film... That night was my proper 30th, which took place at a Mexican restaurant in the city with 22 of my bestest friends. It turned out to be happy hour when we arrived, which was very welcome news. It also led to one of the whopping TWO photos taken that night:

Yup. That happened. Also, mmmmmmm, daiquiri...

Dinner was delicious nachos, followed by fajitas, followed by churros. Om nom nom nom nom. Dinner was an absolute blast, and it meant I got to catch up with a bunch of people I don't get to see very often. Which, WIN. And because I'm totally geriatric now, we were home by just after midnight.

SUNDAY:
The morning started with a jaunt around the Tan, which took longer than it usually would on account of Little Miss A was with us, and she wanted to stop for hot chocolate/biscuits/a wander around the children's garden. After a wee sojourn at home with Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (because we're cool), we headed into the MCG to see Hawthorn play North Melbourne. I'm pretty sure Nikki was HORRIBLY confused, but it was a pretty great game. It was much less of a walkover than I'd expected, for starters! It pretty much came down to the final siren, so that was fun. Plus, there was a very vocal Hawthorn supporter behind us who kept yelling her advice to the players every couple of minutes. Hilarious.

MONDAY:
Nikki's flight back to Sydney wasn't until 8.45pm, so we headed into the city and went to the Hollywood costume exhibition at ACMI. It was AMAZING - definitely worth the money it cost to get in. It included costumes from The Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Braveheart, The Dark Knight Rises, Gone with the Wind, Gladiator, The Addams Family Values, Fight Club, Brokeback Mountain, The Queen, and Pirates of the Caribbean. And not costumes from the extras or anything. Costumes from the main characters - costumes that you recognise in a split second.

Personally, I thought the sound spill in the exhibition space could have been better controlled, but it was still complete and utterly incredible. Although Nikki and I did nearly die laughing when we realised that the mannequin they'd put Mel Gibson's Braveheart costume on had lady legs. How could we tell? First of all, they were very shapely. Secondly, they were doing that weird pose that's meant to make your legs look thinner but which mostly makes you look like you need to pee. You know, the one that actresses do on the red carpet all the time. Basically, picture Taylor Swift's legs on Mel Gibson's body. Yeeeeeeeah... We even went back to all the other male mannequins with exposed legs to check if they had lady legs too. And NOPE. Just Mel.

Then we had a wee spot of lunch on Degraves Street and headed for home, where we spent our last few hours of pretending we didn't have a million assignments to do playing Lego Pirates of the Caribbean. Because OBVIOUSLY. We also learnt that it's possible to kill someone through a jail cell door in the game. When you're a dog. (Sorry, Nikki.......)

So there you have it. I think I planned and executed a kickass 30th birthday pretty damned well, don't you?!

Movie Monday: Some Like It Hot

A while back, I saw a post on Tumblr that consisted of a photo from this week's movie and a caption along the lines of "As if Marilyn Monroe couldn't get any cooler, here she is hanging out with drag queens!". And I was like "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllll.........you're sort of right??"

File:Some Like It Hot poster.jpg
Source
Anyway, I'm guessing that it's probably a movie that not a lot of people have seen, and that needs to be rectified immediately, because it's PHENOMENAL.

Reasons why Some Like It Hot is awesome:
1. It was made in 1959 and set in 1929, and yet features all manner of wibbly wobbly gender bendy cross-dressing craziness. Which not a single character bats an eyelid at.
2. Jack Lemmon. He's FANTASTIC. And has an Oscar nomination to prove it.
Source
3. Tony Curtis.
4. It was banned in Kansas. Anything banned in Kansas has to be worth watching!
5. Marilyn Monroe. It seems like she had a ton of issues going on when they were filming this, and she's still amazingly adorable.
6. The tango scene.
Source
7. The soundtrack.
8. Joe E. Brown as Osgood. Hilarious.
9. The ending. It's absolutely perfect.
10. Smuggling booze in coffins.
Source
11. Gangsters.
12. Tony Curtis impersonating Cary Grant. Perfection.
13. It's written and directed by Billy Wilder, who's also responsible for The Seven Year Itch, Sabrina and Sunset Boulevard.
14. Spats and fedoras.
15. Marilyn's ridiculous costumes.
Who thought a see-through dress with spangly nipples was a good idea?!
Also, source.
16. Sleazy bellhops.
17. It was nominated for six Oscars, and won one.
18. Joan Shawlee as Sweet Sue.
19. Playing the double bass backwards due to distraction.
20. Jack Lemmon's girl laugh.

21. No one blinks an eye at the idea of same sex marriage. Seriously.

Plus, the following quotes:
- "Real diamonds! They must be worth their weight in gold!"
- "Hey, these are real diamonds!" "Of course they're real! What do you think? My fiance is a bum?"
- "What are you afraid of? No-one's asking you to have a baby!"
- "Story of my life. I always get the fuzzy end of the lollipop."
- "Will you look at that! Look how she moves! It's like Jell-O on springs."
- "Now you've done it! Now you have done it!" "Done what?" "You tore off one of my chests!"
- "But, you're *not* a girl! You're a *guy*, and, why would a guy wanna marry a guy?" "Security!"
- "We're up the creek and you want to hock the paddle!"
- "Something tells me the omelette is about to hit the fan!"
- "Ohhhhhhh no. Not tonight, Josephine!"
- "I don't want you to think I'm a drinker. I can stop any time I want to. Only I don't want to."
- "I'm a girl. I wish I were dead."
- "I am Osgood Fielding the third." "I'm Cinderella the second."
- "You shave with your spats on?" "I SLEEP with my spats on."
- "How DO they walk in these things?!"
- "I don't care how rich he is, as long as he has a yacht, his own private railroad car, and his own toothpaste."
- "It's not how long you wait, it's who you're waiting for."
- "What is it?" "It's a member of the herring family." "A herring? Isn't it amazing how they get those big fish into those little glass jars?" "They shrink when they're marinated."
- "This is my friend Daphne, she's a Vassar girl." "I'm a what?" "Or was it Bryn Mawr?" "I heard a very sad story about a girl that went to Bryn Mawr. She squealed on her roommate... and they found her strangled with her own brassiere!" "Yes, we've got to be very careful who we choose for a roommate..."
- "Well, nobody's perfect!"

So. Have you seen it? Do you love it?
