Moving requires packing

I know, right? Who knew?! Considering I've got less than two weeks left in Canberra (SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!), and considering my work mum dropped round a bunch of packing boxes yesterday, I figured I may as well take advantage of having nothing to do this afternoon and get things under way.

So far, I've packed my books and my DVDs, and cleaned out part of my closet. Here's the before pictures with annotations showing the SUPER important bits. (Don't ask me why all my 'writing' goes downhill to the right. I have no idea):
My room.

Also my room.

Living room.

Dining room.

And here's the progress I've made so far:

Feel free to judge my taste in films... And yes, those boxes JUST contain DVDs

ALL those boxes have books in them...

Not particularly impressive, I'll grant you. But it's a start! There'll be more progress pictures next weekend when my housemate, D, moves out, leaving me with a TV, some cushions, and the stuff in my bedroom. It's gonna be GREAT - like I've been burgled, only not..............

How's your Sunday been?

Random ramblings

There's a lot of random shit going on in my head today. Let's start with the fact that I'm being stalked by The Human League's "Don't You Want Me". Which is annoying, because it reminds me of Ashes to Ashes and that - as I've mentioned before - makes me sad. I think it started in the supermarket last weekend - "Don't You Want Me" was playing on the terrible overhead speaker music. Then on Wednesday, a techno version of "Don't You Want Me" was the squat track at Pump. Then ALL weekend, I was subjected to it through ads on TV for some bizarre compilation CD that also features Britney Spears. Because they're obviously the perfect musical companions... And then tonight? Rachel and Blaine sang it on Glee. So yeah, I'm being stalked by The Human League...

Other random crap in my head? There's a new guy in the IT Department at work. He's working on the service desk. And he totally looks like he belongs on Jersey Shore. The following conversation happened between me and my roller derby playing colleague, Femaelstrom on Friday:
[new IT guy walks past wearing far too many gold necklaces, skinny jeans and a stupidly tight t-shirt]
Femaelstrom: Who's that?
Me: New IT guy
Femaelstrom: Looking like that? What does he do? [mimes bicep curls] "Hello, Service Desk. Can I help you?"
Me: I wouldn't put it past him...

So anyway, I came up with this for you. I tried to find a picture that involved barbells, but there are only so many pictures of the cast of Jersey Shore you can look at before your eyeballs start to melt out of your head. So this will just have to do:

I'm so generous... Also, if he isn't the most disgusting guy on the planet, I don't know who is. Oh, wait. Robert Pattinson, obviously *shudder*

I went shopping yesterday with the intention of buying new work clothes, because I *REALLY* hate everything in my wardrobe. And the last time I went shopping for clothes was in 2010... Anyway, in terms of clothes, all I came home with was a new casual jacket and a new pair of trousers. Because fashions are SERIOUSLY fugly at the moment. I think I only saw about two other things that I would have voluntarily spent money on, and those were only available in a size 6 (which, let's face it, I'm not).

Instead, I came home with a crapload of DVDs. You know, just for a change. Anyway, one of the DVDs I bought was Sense and Sensibility. The 1995 version. The only problem I have with it? It stars Alan Rickman. Yes, he's a genius. But all I hear is this:
Yeah. Actually...it would be infinitely more awesome if he played Snape rather than Colonel Brandon...

Now whenever you watch it, that's all you'll be able to think about, right? You're welcome.

Where the hell did these come from?

We had a rental inspection today. So I spent yesterday cleaning the house. I hate cleaning the house with a fiery passion, so obviously I was on the lookout for a way of procrastinating. I struck on the idea of moving my bookshelf to where my DVD stands were, and moving my DVD stands to where the bookshelf was so that I had more space for my DVDs. But then I realised that even if I put them where the bookshelf is, there still wouldn't be space to put all the TV shows in with the movies. (Yes, I had them separated. I'm slightly OCD like that)

So I decided to move them into the living room, because we have plenty of space in there, and it makes more sense to have them next to the TV than to trek down the hall to my bedroom every time I want to watch a movie. So I moved the stands and the movies out to the living room, and then all the boxes and bags filled with TV shows.

Course, we're talking about me here, so my DVDs have to be in alphabetical order. And when you're talking about over 300, alphabetising from a giant pile on the floor isn't really an option. Which is how I wound up with this covering the living room floor:

Yes, that's one pile for each letter. (Except for Q, Y and Z. Apparently I don't own anything starting with Q, Y or Z...) And that massive pile on the left? Yeah, that's courtesy of five seasons of Bones and seven seasons of Buffy. I was slightly worried that it was going to collapse, and result in a domino effect causing alphabetical chaos.

But with the exception of me forgetting about the letter W and having to pull a whole lot of stuff out and start again, there were no alphabetical catastrophes. And now the pile of crap on the floor has been converted to this:

Much better, don't you think? Course, the part you can't see is that I tried to straighten up the drunken tilt of the left hand DVD stand about five minutes after I took this, and that made the right hand DVD stand fall over into the coffee table and everything in between fall over. *sigh* So now the bottom row of stuff in the middle looks even more drunk than before. Awesome...............

I have to say, I had something of a Carrie Bradshaw moment when I had the piles of DVDs all over the floor. I'm not a huge fan of Sex and the City, but I do recall an episode where Carrie is pondering where all her money has gone, and then realises that she's got $40,000 worth of ugly shoes. I don't think I've got anywhere near $40,000 worth of DVDs (mostly because of my "if it's more than $10 per disc, don't buy it" policy), but that is a CRAPLOAD of DVDs...

Having said that, I've got a decent chunk of space to fill at the top. Hmmmm............ ;)
